  1. “If any of you sees a dream that he enjoys, this is from Allaah, therefore let him praise Allaah for it and tell others about it,” said Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri (may Allaah be pleased with him). It is the Shaytaan who is responsible for any other dreams he may have

As Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) explained, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “If any of you sees a dream that he enjoys, this is from Allah; therefore, let him worship Allah for it and tell others about it. ” Any other dream, or one that he does not enjoy, is from the Shaytaan; thus, he should seek refuge with Allah from its evil and not tell it to anybody, because it will not hurt him.”;

  1. A person should express gratitude to Allah for a pleasant dream. He should be excited about it
  2. He should tell those he cares about about it, but not those he doesn’t
  3. He should tell those he admires about it, but not those he despises

If we had to summarize all that has been stated regarding unpleasant nightmares, we would say four things:

  1. It is recommended that he seek refuge with Allaah from the evil of the dream
  2. It is also recommended that he seek refuge with Allaah from the evil of the Shaytaan
  3. He should spit to his left three times when he wakes up
  4. He should not disclose it to anybody
  5. A fifth thing was reported from Abu Hurayrah in al-Baab Bukhaari’s al-Qayd fi’l-Manaam, which is to pray, according to the tradition. According to the report, anyone who sees anything he does not like (in a dream) should not tell anyone about it
  6. Instead, he should get up and pray for the situation. This was recorded as a Mawsool report by Imaam Muslim in his Saheeh
  7. Muslim added a sixth item, which is to turn over from the side on which one was laying
  8. And Muslim added a seventh thing, which is to turn over from the side on which one was lying.

According to Jaabir, a Bedouin approached the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and confessed, “I had a dream that my head had been cut off, and I was chasing after it.” “Do not tell anybody about how the Shaytaan is messing with you in your dreams,” the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) chastised him and told him.

According to Allah’s infinite wisdom, only He possesses knowledge of the unseen, and He chooses to give some of this knowledge to those whom He wishes in accordance with that wisdom.

As a result, this is a significant test of one’s faith.
